I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to moisturize if you are a girl with dry skin!
I know it sounds obvious but I just wanted to explain the reasons behind good moisturizing... working for the fabulous skincare brand Clinique I learnt the reasons behind all these beauty regimes, tips and tricks.
Basically your skin needs a healthy moisture barrier in order to be strong, and your skin must be strong and healthy in order to fight against the elements which include pollution, the sun, irritation, stress etc. If your moisture barrier is not 100% in tact and strong then your skins strength will be compromised meaning your skin is more likely to suffer trauma...
Trauma to the skin can come in many forms, from pushing and pulling at your skin to unblock pores ( we all do it!), allergic reactions to the skin causing redness and irritation, sunburn etc which can all lead to scarring... When the skin scars in anyway due to trauma it over produces melanin in the skin which leads to darker patches or discolorations on the face...
This is why we get dark spots otherwise known as sun spots on the face, this is where the sun has caused damage and trauma to the skin leading to the overproduction of melanin (which is what makes your skin tan) causing a dark patch of scarred tissue.
All these sorts or problems can be prevented from strong healthy skin which comes from a strong moisture barrier beneath the skin... If you are someone who suffers from sensitivity, dryness or irritation of the skin then you more than anyone must be moisturizing well!
I would recommend moisturizers from either Neal's Yard or Clinique, both of which are great brands for moisturizers...
Clinique have a moisturizer called 'Moisture Surge' which is a rich cream gel designed to help repair the skins mositure barrier over time in order to prevent further moisture loss in the future, plus immediately hydrate without leaving the skin feeling greasy so it is perfect for daytime use under makeup...however it does not contain a Sun Protection Factor so you would need to top up with a sun cream in the summer in order to get your protection from the sun...
