Four words:
HELLO FACIAL CLEANSING OILS!
While most of us are considering a complete alcohol and food detox after overindulging this festive period perhaps it might be a good idea to have a look at your beauty regime and consider the same!
A couple of nights ago I came across an article on Elle.com about a woman who used many potions and lotions on her skin (all of which were well reviewed and not cheap) but still looked in the mirror and found her skin in tatters..."Why??" she would ask herself in horror whilst examining her face in the bathroom mirror "why!?"...and the answer was overindulgence in beauty products...
This overindulgence in too many products claiming to perform all these different miracles and containing all these different chemicals and ingredients was causing an imbalance in her skin and stressing it out to the point where she had dry patches, oily patches, redness. breakouts, lines and wrinkles you name it!
In order to solve the problem she was told to strip down her skincare routine and use only a few products, products that were as natural and non-fuss as can be...
In order to restore balance to her skin which had gone haywire she was advised to use a cleansing facial oil (and no, cleansing your face with oil will not clog pores and promote any kind of grease for those of you with oilier skin types; Oil, alone, will not bring you blemishes. Pimples, cysts, zits, blackheads, whiteheads...these are a result of several different factors including hormones, bacteria, dead skin cells and the buildup of these factors).
Oil cleansers will emulsify your makeup, removing dirt and grime whilst restoring the skins natural moisture and balance which can then be removed with a hot cloth.
The best well known and highly acclaimed facial cleansing oil is by Shu Uemura and costs £27 but apparently is worth each and every penny, all that is required is a small pump so a little will go a long way therefore the product shall last a long time.
Others which I have read the best reviews about are MAC's cleansing oil (£16) or origins cleansing oil (£15).
Or you can just forget those and make your own simply at home using castor oil and olive or sunflower oil, the castor contains the cleansing properties to remove dirt and the olive or sunflower oil will moisturize and restore balance. The type of skin you have will determine the quantities of each oil that you use, for oilier skins use more castor oil and for drier for sensitive types use more olive or sunflower oil!
Get it?... Now clear out the bathroom cabinet of all those funny looking new age bottles and go downstairs into the pantry to grab the cooking oils!
